That'd be noisy, for one thing, and highways are already noisy enough. You
could do just as well using sensors under the car that tracked the LIM
stator and kept it centered. Actually, you'd need to do that anyways with
the guide-pin system to keep the wheels turned in the appropriate
direction -- otherwise you'd need to lock the wheels straight, which would
result in horrific wear on the tires.

The guide-pin system, though, does result in better behavior when the LIM
fails (which, of course, it will) or a car is buggy.
