I'm not sure about the substantive claim, but it isn't just a question
of the cash, but of the focus of the government and the mindset of the
populace.

While the 3700-odd US soldiers killed is an issue many have at the
front of their minds, what is less often considerd are the numbers of
seriously injured survivors, who plainly have to fall back upon the
health care, welfare system and their families for support.

That too is a cost.
