It may be simple to use, but it is wery complex.

Both the ICE and the EE puts power into the drivetrain. This is not an
easy thing to do without large losses.

A PIHV that only runs with electricity and uses ICE whenever you need
to go longer than the batteries will carry you, will be mutch less
complex*, and cheaper to build.

*Although it may need a complex charging/battery status controller.
But computer power are cheap.
