Those danged primitive hominids that first figured out how to use
wood for camp fires started this on-going global warming trend, I
guess, huh?
For approximately the past 12,000 years this planet has been
warming at a rate determined by the remaining polar ice area. As
the polar ice sheet recedes and the exposed earth absorbs more
sunlight, the warming rate increases.
It is sort of like watching the liquid level as a large
cone-shaped funnel drains. When the funnel is full and the liquid
area is large the level changes rather slowly, but as the funnel
empties and the liquid surface area diminishes down the funnel's
cone, the level drops at an ever increasing rate.
One can see a similar demonstration of this effect when a bath
tub is drained. Have you ever noticed how the last bit of water
seems to rush down the drain at an accelerated rate?
Like that last bit of water draining from a bath tub, the polar
ice surface area is now diminishing at a very rapid rate, and as
the polar ice melts and soil is exposed to sunlight, the
absorption vs reflection changes. More warm soil equates to
accelerated global warming.
