Perhaps, but once you have that final number it doesn't matter how
you got there. You certainly don't need to publish where the number
came from or how someone figured it out. None of those extraneous
details will affect the design.

40 is a number. This is a truism. Something so blatantly obvious
to everyone that it simply does not have to be proved. So, I won't.
Steve said it wasn't a guess. Since the number appears reasonable
and has passed verification tests by others, I'll take him at his
word.
I've already established that the final design for a system is a
list of parts and instructions to put them together. You've stated
that you don't need the instructions. Therefore, the shopping list
IS the design or as much of it as required for discussion.
