Please clarify which type of subsidy you have in mind...

(A) The OLD CALIFORNIA model in which virtually all of the pv
paybacks went into boiler shop scams that set pv back by
many decades and has yet to recover.

(B) The ARIZONA model in which you were given a free large
SUV for an unconnected one gallon tank.

(C) The MIDWEST model where a monumental energy sink was
cleverly disguised as a twelve billion dollar vote buying
scam.

(D) The SOUTH CAROLINA model where they added a five ton
evaporative cooler to get their 3 ton but nonworking solar
adsorption cooler to look good.

(E) The CHICAGO model where their bus demos are trucking
hydrogen in from Pittsburgh,

(F) The CANADIAN model where their nonworking hydrogen
bus got pushed to the top of a hill and then coasted
into the media demo. Where its silent operation
was lavishly praised by the media.

(G) The BRAZIL model that nearly bankrupted the entire country
over monumental ethanol stupidity.

and, of course...

(H) The NEW CALIFORNIA model that pays people to put obsolete
and known defective gasoline destroying net energy
sinks on inappropriate rooftops and is likely to
set net energy pv breakeven BACK by over five decades.

The best possible way for alternate energy to succeed is if the Feds
and bureaucrats GET AND STAY OUT OF THE WAY!
