Subject: Re: battery capacity

Thank you!

In an electric car, multiple batteries are used.
Is it more advantageous to connect them in series or in parallel?
Connected in series their voltages sum up.
Connected in parallel and their AH increase.

But with a motor controller, you get to control and lower the voltage.
With a parallel, you'll have to step up the voltage to match the
voltage of the ones connected in series.

My question is,

With two electric cars with batteries...

connected in series, two 12 volt,10aH batteries = 24volts with 10aH
versus connected in parallel two 12 volt,10aH batteries = 12volts with
20aH

Would the vehicle with batteries connected in SERIES travel at similar
speeds and similar range to the "parallel setup" IF its voltage were
brought down to 12volts by the motor controller???
