Yes, when fed cadmium as a soluble compound in one dose. From other data in the
report I took that from, rats seem about 4X as sensitive to Cd as humans. But
assuming that humans and rats respond the same, a 100kg (220 lb) human would require
grams of the stuff to have a 50% chance of dying from it. That's maybe a level
teaspoon.

Just to put that in perspective, the LD50 dose for aspirin is around 200mg/kg,
depending on the source of the data. The LD50 dose for nicotine is about 55mg/kg. If
our friend Dave is phobic of Cd then he must go nuts in the aspirin row of the local
super and must be out of his mind in the cigs aisle.

I'm firmly convinced that there is a genetic code in most people that causes them to
need to fear things. If we all found ourselves in the Garden of Eden again, I have
no doubt most people would look for the snake....
